Live the exceptionnal: a unique product in utmost downtown Pest - a FRENCH HOME DESIGNER'S own CONTEMPORARY APARTMENT IN A HISTORICALLY PROTECTED XIXth CENTURY BUILDING ten feet away from OKTOGON, the most beautiful place in Budapest and ANDRASSY, the Hungarian "Champs-Elysées". In a one minute walking vicinity: the lively open green terrasses restaurants of Litsz Ferenc Ter, Broadway's theatres, gastronomic highlights and the splendor of the Opera!
By contrast, next street, farmers bring their own seasonal fruits and vegetables to the peasant daily market (don’t expect calibered…): it’s just locals and peaceful, “village” atmosphere.
24 hours' groceries, pharmacy, supermarkets, banks, exchange offices, authentic Tai massages, beauty shops, hairdressers… and the tourism agency are almost downstairs.
Transports are at your door (tram 4 and 6, metro 3). The Szechenyi baths, the Heroes’ park and the city forest are on direct access with metro 3 at the end of Andrassy – five minutes on the other way bring you to the Danubius.
THE LOCATION IS FANTASTIC, as exclusive as practical. As is your apartment… You'll never find an easiest access to transport. The paradox being that you might never need it: You’re at the original core of Pest Golden triangle.
Take a stroll to the Jewish quarter, just besides Kiraly street, with its old time shops, ruin bars, local Hungarian and Kosher restaurants; leisurely admire old Europa’s biggest synagogue and Bazilika’s architecture… From Oktogon, Vaci ut (Fashion street) and the Danubius are straight away. Follow Andrassy with its high-end worldwide luxurious shops and impressive XIXth century buildings, cross Deak Ter (the metro hub) and touch an empire lifestyle with the Gerbaut pastries. The illuminated bridges and Budapest’s finest monuments shine on the river and along Andrassy. You'll get lost in the beauty of the night.
Imagine that the patrician house that hosts you was originally created for two families only (one dealing with oriental furs and carpets, the other with famous gourmet catering and restaurant)....and that all those houses and mansions around got out of the ground in ten years. Pest was booming. When count Andrassy decided in 1870 to establish a great avenue (Kiraly, the old commercial street, was too narrow), and, a year after, completed the project with Oktogon place and the perpendicular korut, all the new financial and intellectual intelligences gathered here, attracting minds and money from all Europa.
The architecture of the two koruts (Andrassy, Terez) is a testimony of this Golden Age: underground was for storage; ground floor for the shops and public offices; up a first floor, which is never considered a floor (either a half floor or a no-named one), for the business offices; and then from first to third, family lodgings. Boasting arts, urbanism and business, Pest drew an international crowd - up to this day, Pest is reknown for its particular spirit and civility, with a unique kind of dry humor, a mix of the Magyar, German, Jewish, Slavic, Italian and French... The house still retains a lot of this heritage.
The avenue itself (Terez korut) was stated the second greatest ancestral avenue of Budapest and declared a national patrimony as such, while Andrassy street, the first, is a UNESCO world treasure. Both meet at Oktogon, ten seconds from your doors.
Unlock them… the real local life of Pest former elite inhabitants breathes here. Separated from the korut by thick walls and monumental gates, hidden to the passers, a breathtaking, secluded inner patio awaits you. Everything is as it was in 1880: iron balconies, airy arcades, sandstone stairs – except for the lift, a later fitting that will add to your comfort. The apartment is officially at second floor on a house of three (due to the atypical old traditional commercial architecture of the koruts and the extreme hights of the ceilings, it would be closer to a fourth floor anywhere else). You can see the stars from the patio at night and the lights of the courtyard give the house a unique romantic touch.
Take a glass of Hungarian champagne or smile at a sunny breakfast in your own little private place facing the patio…
Your apartment doesn’t look on the korut but on an Art deco building in a small one-way street (Aradi). Totally renovated in 2013 by the owner – a French home designer / decorator who worked a lot in Asia before settling in Budapest - the layout was rethought in a spirit of zen, design and natural luxury comfort while keeping the best features of the original soul : cathedral ceilings (4m10), century-old window and parkets; even a 1920 lamp (in what is now the kitchen), dating from the time when the apartment was turned into an office, remains. The idea was to maximize the 70 m² space while emphasizing the characteristics of an ancestral home in contemporary days luxury and restfull desires.
The glass mezzanine upstairs, conceived as an open bedroom with a king bed (180 cm), goes further into an en-suite bathroom and a separate WC. The glass panel in-between is a see-throught for the stone fontain basin. From the mezzanine, you have a panoramic view on the 30m² living room downstairs. Hidden below lays the very comfortable Danish Innovation sofa bed (140 cm). This main level also includes an Italian built-in kitchen, a second bathroom and another separate WC. Two additional beddings (futon beds for one person) are provided upon request so the apartment can accommodate up to 6 persons.
Still a couple in love with space and design or liking the idea of two bathrooms would greatly enjoy the place. It offers you an exclusive atmosphere and top-notch amenities (Kaldewei ceramic baths, Bosch & Gorenje kitchen appliances, Italian sanitaries and tiles). Part of the decoration comes from artists friends of the owner; a few Asian and Hungarian antiques put their own touch to the mix. Add the purity of Kwok Hoï Chan Zen chair and you'll just feel relaxed and zen yourself.
To further ensure your well-being, the apartment is non-smoking.
At your disposal, everything you need for your home: glassware, cookware, cutlery, napkins, toaster, juicer, coffee maker, electric kettle; fridge, oven, microwaves grill, induction cooking panel + extractor, dishwasher, washing and drying machine, hair-dryer, tower fan, iron, iron board, aspirator and a safe for your convenience. The WIFI is free, fast and flawless. It can be disabled for a cable connection if you are sensitive to waves.
There is a 1 meter wide Philips TV with access to international channels incl. HBO. City maps, towels, pillows, bed linens and spa amenities are provided.
The house and its environment are extremely safe. Parking in the nearby streets is free from friday evening to monday morning (a rare, if not unique, occurrence downtown) and a secured, paying, private parking is just situated in the next building. Access to the railwaystations is smooth: the beautiful Nyugati station is one tram stop farther than Oktogon and it takes 25 minutes to rejoin Keleti station. Shuttle and taxi bring you from the airport in about 45 minutes.
Everything there is so close and convenient that you'll settle in the easiest maneer, nonewithstanding the lenght of your stay. Downstairs, on your right, the next street number holds a bread and croissants specialities’ shop reknown in all Pest. If you don't want to bother with breakfast, just get at the ground floor on your left for a large breakfast buffet (~ 3 euros). Depending on your tastes and moods, you can try every possible kind of restaurants (from gourmet to MacDonald's), bars and nightlife within a few minutes' walk.
Being in Broadway and Opera vicinity allows you all the range of entertainment : from gastronomic delicacies to XIXth century old time cafe, from ruin bar to classical ballet, from museum to jazzy underground scene or kosher hummus place. So go for it and try it yourselves...

Merci
